Rangers star Steven Davis has praised Celtic duo Fraser Forster and Mohamed Elyounoussi ahead of the Betfred Cup final.
The Ibrox club and the Bhoys will lock horns at Hampden on December 8th. It’s sure to be an incredible event, with Rangers finally joining us in a cup final for the first time since 2011.
Celtic go into the game having already beaten their bitter rivals at Ibrox back in September. The 2-0 success that day is still fresh in the memory, and was one of Neil Lennon’s finest hours since returning to the club.
But ahead of next month’s showdown, Davis has been reflecting on his two former Southampton teammates. Speaking in the Daily Record, the Rangers man said this on our stars:
“It’s nice to see Fraser back playing and enjoying his football after a difficult spell but hopefully on the day I’ll get bragging rights!
“Mohamed was there as well. You can see now he’s playing regularly and has a bit of confidence the sort of level he can get to. They’re two players who are obviously a big part of Celtic’s squad.”
Celtic duo almost certain to start next month
Sure, a month is a long time in football, but can you see anyone displacing either man ahead of the Rangers game?
Forster has come back to the club and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he’s our best goalkeeper. He’s streets ahead of both Scott Bain and Craig Gordon respectively. So far, he’s managed 13 appearances and six clean sheets. Not a bad return for the former Newcastle stopper.
And any chance of him not starting against Rangers would only be down to injury. He’s a Lenny favourite, and he’ll most certainly be in the starting line-up next month if all goes well.
Meanwhile, Elyounoussi has made the left-wing spot his own. Mikey Johnston is back from injury and will fight tooth and nail to get his spot back. But the fact is that Mo now has seven goals in 10 games. He can afford to think ahead with confidence that he’ll be selected.
Davis, of course, played with both of them during the first half of last season. The Ibrox man signed on in Glasgow back in January 2019. He’ll be familiar with both men ahead of the clash next month.
However, the prospect of Elyounoussi against James Tavernier will whet the appetite of any Celtic fan. And, considering Fraser has already kept a clean sheet against Steven Gerrard’s side this season, we have every reason to be confident.
