Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos says Scott Brown “exaggerated”

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has claimed that Celtic midfielder Scott Brown “exaggerated” the contact that saw him sent off.

The Ibrox hothead picked up an incredible FIFTH red card of the season on Sunday. It was, incredibly, just his first against Celtic. Three of them came against Aberdeen, however, showing how much he struggles to cope with discipline in big games.

Despite that, however, he has pointed a finger of blame over to the Celtic captain. Instead of taking full responsibility for his own actions, he decided to say that the Celtic squad put pressure on the officials to give the decision.

Speaking to Colombian outlet Blu Radio, Morelos couldn’t help but aim a dig at the Celtic players.

“I always come into contact with the Celtic captain and I’ve always had strong contact with him and its always been like that. I didn’t touch his face and I think that he exaggerated a lot.

“Neither the referee nor his assistant saw what happened. Celtic players went over and put pressure on the linesman and then not even five seconds later the linesman told the referee to send me off.

“Like I said, I have to confront these things in the best way possible and that’s what I’m doing. I apologised publicly and well, we have to keep moving forward, with my head held high.”

“I apologised”….yet the Celtic players got him sent off?

Yet again the fall-out from Sunday’s game continues nearly three days since kick-off. You would be forgiven for forgetting that we actually have another big game tonight at St Mirren.

But Morelos wants to decide who’s to blame here. Is it Brown? The Celtic players? Or himself? Sure, we all know the answer, but despite the Rangers striker’s apology, he sounds like he isn’t convinced he was the only one responsible.

It’s also worth noting that the pot is calling the kettle black here. Speaking of exaggerated contact is laughable given the way Morelos goes tumbling to the ground. Does he forget the Jozo Simunovic red card back in March 2018? It didn’t take much for Fredo to go tumbling to ground in that one.

What goes on in that man’s head is incredibly intriguing. He apologises, then looks to blame someone else, and will no doubt be sent off yet again before the season is out.

It’s times like this when we should thank goodness we have Odsonne Edouard and not Morelos.
