Rangers loanee Ryan Kent may be accused of slight revisionism after his latest comments. Ahead of Sunday’s derby, the winger has chosen to do his talking off the pitch by claiming that Rangers dominated the second-half of March’s meeting.
The Liverpool man told the Scottish Sun: “At Parkhead, we were under the cosh in the first half due to going a man down.
“But in the second half we were much the better team with only ten men and we were unfortunate to concede a late goal.”
Pandering to the Gers support
While the Englishman’s comments are likely to appease those of a blue persuasion, they’re not entirely accurate.
Rangers may have made more of a game of it in the second-half at Celtic Park but that’s only because they were second-best for the entirety of the first 45.
The stats for the second-half of March’s game still showed Neil Lennon’s men as the dominant team. The Hoops had 57% of possession after half-time. Both sides had six shots but Celtic had more on target. The Hoops also won more free-kicks while for all of their apparent pressure, Rangers didn’t force Scott Bain into a single save.
The visitors also committed more fouls, and had more yellow and red cards. So perhaps they did dominate one aspect of proceedings.
Celtic will once again do their talking on the pitch on Sunday. It’s just a shame that their Ibrox rivals can’t learn to do likewise.
