Rangers women’s coach Craig McPherson has been handed a six-match ban for his altercation with Celtic boss Fran Alonso.
McPherson has today learned his SFA fate, two-and-a-half weeks on from the alleged headbutt on Alonso.
As per the SFA website, McPherson has received a “six match immediate suspension” after admitting to the incident.
He is charged with breaking Disciplinary Rule 77, which reads: “A recognised football body, club, official, team official, other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall, at all times, act in the best interests of Association Football.
“Furthermore such person or body shall not act in any manner which is improper or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.”
A look at Rangers women’s upcoming fixtures shows that McPherson will actually miss his side’s next game against Celtic.
The Hoops are due to face their rivals in the SWPL on Thursday 4 May.
The game at the Excelsior Stadium kicks off at 7pm and will be shown on Sky Sports like the recent controversial fixture.
Celtic are currently second in the SWPL, eight points behind leaders Glasgow City and one ahead of Rangers.
With second place enough for a shot at next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, it promises to be a huge fixture.
McPherson missing it is the least Alonso and his team deserve after the outburst.
