RB Leipzig finding football “fun” again before seismic Celtic Champions League double-header

RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has stated that his side have found a foundation to build on going to a massive Champions League double-header against Celtic after yesterday’s 4-0 Bundesliga win over VfL Bochum.

The Bundesliga side had only one win in five going into yesterday’s game, but made short work of their opponents with a comprehensive four goal salvo, scoring two in each half.

Szoboszlai, who scored a stunner in Marco Rose’s first match in a 3-0 win over the manager’s old club Dortmund, insisted that the win would give his something to build on going into Wednesday’s game against Celtic.

Speaking on Leipzig’s website following the 4-0 victory over Bochum, Szoboszlai said: “It was really fun today. We absolutely wanted to go into the new week on the back of a win. We have some tough weeks ahead of us with twelve games in six weeks. It won’t be easy but we’re ready – you could see that today. Everyone was there for each other.

“The game today gives us a push for the Champions League against Celtic on Wednesday. We will go into the game with a lot of power and energy; we need the points – both in the Champions League and the Bundesliga.”

Szoboszlai also took time to praise Timo Werner, as the striker broke a century of goals for the club to extend his tally as Leipzig’s all-time record goal-scorer.

He said: “I didn’t know that Timo had scored so many goals for Leipzig. I congratulate him and hope that he can score 100 more.”

Leipzig bounce coming at the wrong time for Celtic

Celtic would have been looking at Leipzig’s form going into the international break hoping that the German side’s dismal form would carry into the upcoming double-header, but Rose’s side have stopped the rot in style.

Getting a result in Germany was always going to be a tall order even without Leipzig finding their groove under Rose, so there will be no uncertainties about the task facing Postecoglou’s Celtic on Wednesday.

Whilst Rose’s side have shipped goals, and particularly soft ones at that, so far this season, they have considerable thrust in the middle of the pitch and electric pace in forward areas that would trouble most defences in European football.

Doubtlessly, Postecoglou will have a plan to deal with Leipzig’s quick transitions and central overloads, here’s hoping his players can execute it and Celtic can come away with at least a point for their second Champions League away game unbeaten.
