RB Leipzig have acknowledged the support they are getting from Celtic supporters ahead of tonight’s Europa League clash with Rangers at Ibrox.
Leipzig and Rangers face off for the opportunity to make it into a Seville final, with the Germans holding a 1-0 lead on aggregate.
It’s fair to say a lot of Celtic supporters are hoping they will finish the job in Govan and their English-language social media is having a bit of fun with it, responding to one fan on Twitter.
Is it petty not to support a fellow Scottish team in a European competition, especially on the brink of a final? Yes, of course, it is. But I am a petty man.
Listen, that’s what the rivalry is. I’m not accepting any judgement of Celtic fans for not wanting Rangers to win tonight. Do you think they’d be cheering for another Bhoys trip to Seville? Of course not!
It’s amusing to see RB Leipzig play it up in a harmless fashion.
The Germans putting Rangers out tonight would be a sickener for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, his team and their supporters.
It would also open the door for Celtic to pile on more misery this weekend with a win that virtually guarantees the title. That’s where our priorities lie.
Ultimately, the Ibrox side have proven a lot of doubters wrong in the Europa League already this season, so their exit is not inevitable. Far from it, in fact.
