RB Leipzig have suffered their fourth defeat in five matches this evening, losing 3-0 away to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Jonas Hoffmann scored a double in the first half before Ramy Bensabaini piled on the misery after the break. It leaves Leipzig firmly mid-table in Bundesliga.

Remarkably, it’s the third time they’ve lost by three goals or more in the same period, following similarly humiliating results against Eintracht Frankfurt and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Those prior two results ended in the sacking of Domenico Tedesco, and it had been hoped by the Germans that Marco Rose’s arrival would turn around their fortunes.

They did pick up a promising win at home to Borussia Dortmund immediately after Rose’s appointment, as well as produce a decent display at the Bernabeu before losing 2-0.

However, today’s result will raise further questions about the players and the direction they’re heading in this season.

It all comes ahead of a crucial period for both Leipzig and Celtic. The two sides are due to meet in a hectic period following the international break.

Celtic will travel to Germany on 5th October before hosting a massive clash in Glasgow on 11th October. The games will determine the direction of Group F and whether or not the Bhoys are fighting for second or third in the group.

With Leipzig carrying a number of key injuries also, they have a long international break to stew things over. Hopefully it creates a situation that Ange Postecoglou’s Bhoys can take advantage of.
