Ross County defender Will Nightingale was blown away by his experience of Celtic Park last weekend.

It was the Celts first competitive match of the season, with a sold-out stadium witnessing a 4-2 victory for the champions over a hard-working County.

Nightingale was an impressive performer for the visitors, and actually scooped the BBC’s ‘player of the match’ award despite being on the losing side. (BBC)

The Englishman is at the start of a six-month loan from EFL League Two side AFC Wimbledon. He’s sampled some big stadiums in the past, but a full Celtic Park made a special impression on him.

“It has been more familiar than I expected,” he said, as reported by Football Scotland.

“It was a massive pull for me, the chance to get to play against teams like Celtic or Rangers.

“Down south, we’ve had some good cup runs, so I’ve had the chance to play against some good sides. We had West Ham, Tottenham, Liverpool over the years, and Arsenal in the cup last year.

“I played against Saka when he came off the bench at the Emirates. That was a similar attendance, but the atmosphere at Celtic was just another level. I’ve not experienced that to be fair.”

If Nightingale thinks Celtic Park was special last weekend, he should come along to one of our Champions League clashes this season.

The atmosphere for those games is genuinely unrivalled across Europe. Yes, we’re biased as Celtic fans, but everyone says it.

Celtic got the job done last weekend without being at their best. There were some big individual contributions from the likes of David Turnbull and Matt O’Riley, but some of our overall play was a little laboured.

Let’s hope we’re at our best against Aberdeen this weekend. We may have to be to get the win.
