Kyogo Furuhashi’s 33 goals in all competitions this season have taken his Celtic status to a new level after a promising debut campaign. There’s little doubt it is form that will be attracting the attention of clubs in the upcoming transfer window.

Given his contract runs until 2025, there’s no immediate concern for Celtic fans on that front. The club hold all the cards on any deal and, going by the comments of the player himself, he’s not itching for a move away from Glasgow. In fact, Kyogo sounds more than happy to stay with the Bhoys for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail [28/05 print edition], the red-hot striker said when asked if he’d like to be at the Bhoys beyond his current deal: “Definitely. All the players here want to stay at Celtic for as long as they can and I am one of them. At the same time, I cannot think too much about the future right now. You have to focus on a daily basis on the training pitch. But hopefully I can stay here and give everything I have.”

An important part of Kyogo’s happiness in his career will be determined by his national team presence. We all know he greatly values that honour. Good news then that he was recently called back up to the Japan squad for upcoming matches against El Salvador and Peru.

On that topic, he continued: “I appreciate the coach calling me up to the squad. I have to understand now what they’re asking me to do within the team. I want to play well and impress, using my experience. No matter Japan’s style, I’m a striker so I have to score goals. I want to do that for Japan.”

If Kyogo’s happy, I’m happy. He’s been an absolute joy to watch this season and is, for me, the best player in Scotland right now – even above some of his high-performing Celtic teammates.

His Trophy Day brace against Aberdeen just adds to his already growing legacy with the Hoops and nobody would be surprised to see him end the season with more goals in next week’s Scottish Cup Final.

Despite limping off on Saturday, the signs are good he’ll be fit for that one, so we can all get to appreciate him one last time before the summer.
