Celtic’s final group-stage clash against Real Madrid will be officiated by Stephanie Frappart, who became the first female referee to officiate a Champions League game in 2020.
It has been confirmed by UEFA that the French referee will be taking charge of the Hoops’ final European outing this season against the current holders of the competition.
She will be joined by her assistants Mikael Berchebru and Benjamin Pages, whilst Johan Hamel will be the fourth official in the Spanish capital.

Those on the pitch will also be joined by two officials in the VAR room, with Benoit Millot and Massimiliano Irrati being assigned those duties for Wednesday’s fixture.
Frappart has been a FIFA official since 2011, with her early involvements in the game coming within the French lower leagues.
However, the 38-year-old has worked her way through the ranks and is now a regular official in the French top-flight and European football.
Two years ago, Frappart became the first female referee to officiate a men’s UEFA Champions League fixture during Juventus’ 3-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv [Sky Sports].
Although she hasn’t been the head official in the competition since, she has continued to referee huge profile games across Europe, including in the Europa League.
And Frappart will also be heading to Qatar as one of 36 referees selected for the tournament taking place in November and December.

For Frappart, this will be the first game she is taking charge of involving either Real Madrid or Celtic as the two sides look to round off their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign.
The gender of an official or referee is no difference-maker on anything, and as one of FIFA’s top referees at this moment in time, Frappart is arguably one of the best in the business.
For Ange Postecoglou’s side, there is no focus on the referee as we look to impose ourselves on the game and produce a good performance against a top European side.
So, here’s hoping we can do exactly that and end our European campaign on a high.
