A report from the Press and Journal yesterday has stated that there was no bid from Celtic for Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna.
The Scottish Sun reported over Saturday night that the Scotland international had been the subject of a £5million offer for the Hoops. Aberdeen had apparently turned it down, with yet another summer saga threatening to happen.
But, local outlet Press and Journal have confirmed that Aberdeen have denied any reported interest in McKenna. They believe that no offer was made, and say Aberdeen received no fresh offer from Celtic.

In the past, Aberdeen have already rebuffed moves from Celtic and Aston Villa to take McKenna away from Pittodrie. The latter managed to have a bid of more than £5m rejected (Daily Record)
No bid would make sense given the circumstances.
If Celtic made a bid, it would’ve been confusing as to why we tried to get him with a £5m offer. Given how much Villa reportedly offered but failed to get him, we also likely would’ve had no chance.
This news will come as a relief to some Celtic supporters who just don’t rate McKenna. The recent international matches showed just that. Instead, you have to imagine it would be more ideal for the Hoops to search Europe for centre-backs.

The Sun also believed in the same report that Tomas Kalas and Christopher Jullien were the reported alternatives. If that’s true, those names certainly read better than going for McKenna.
McKenna is also contracted to Aberdeen until 2023 (The Scotsman). They’re in an extremely healthy position to command whatever they want for their star man. He has plenty of potential and that’s undoubted, but whether he’s good enough for Celtic is highly debatable.

For now, it doesn’t look like it’s worth speculating on anymore. With the local media in constant communication with their hometown clubs, they would be more reliable than the nationals for stories like this.
And, at the end of the day, that’s good news for Hoops fans.
