There are rumours that Aberdeen are interested in securing Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths this summer, the Sunday Post reports.
The report states that Griffiths is wanted after the Dons secured Scott Brown in a player/coach capacity.
However, Sunday Post believes that all decisions on transfer outgoings will be doing to the new manager. As of yet, the Hoops don’t have a permanent boss in place for next season. But it will be down to him whether Griffiths leaves or anyone at the club.
Griffiths has had another torrid campaign for Celtic. He’s only managed six goals in 20 appearances, starting only seven league matches in the process. Despite Odsonne Edouard’s struggles, Griffiths still hasn’t been able to break through and get regular minutes.
Celtic also have to keep an eye on his contract situation too. His current deal runs until the summer of 2022. That means he’ll be into the final year of his contract come the summer. There are question marks, however, as to whether he’s actually earned a new one.
Aberdeen move for Leigh Griffiths isn’t ideal for Celtic
There’s nothing to suggest Griffiths won’t be on the move this summer. With a new manager coming in and his contract up in the near future, it’s going to take a lot to turn this around.
However, you wonder whether a move to an Aberdeen or Hibernian would suit Celtic. Do we really want to send him somewhere where he would undoubtedly come back to bite us? We’ve seen it so often with decent-quality Celtic strikers who left the club and made us pay consistently.
Griffiths could easily be one of them. Not that that’s ever persuaded Celtic to not do business with other Scottish clubs in the past. But if we could bag Griff a move out of Scotland, it could suit all parties.

He still has the quality to make an impact down south or even in Europe. The door isn’t completely closed for him at Celtic Park either if he knuckles down and has a big pre-season. But that’s on Griffiths.
There can be no more turning up for pre-season training unfit. No more needing six months to get up to speed and subsequently giving our campaign an unnecessary blow.
It’s make or break time for Griffiths’ Celtic career. A move to Aberdeen wouldn’t suit Celtic, but that’ll be any new manager’s decision to make.
In other news, an international manager has explained why this Celtic starlet will end a three-year cap drought tonight.
