Celtic could be facing Rangers minus Alfredo Morelos on March 31st, should he be pulled up for an incident on Saturday.
Rangers drew 1-1 at home to Kilmarnock. The result ultimately allowed Celtic to stretch their Premiership advantage to 10 points. The league now looks all but done, but the Hoops could really put the final nail in Rangers’ coffin with a win in two weeks’ time.
But, according to the Herald, Morelos appeared to hit out at Kilmarnock star Kirk Broadfoot on Saturday. It occured after the half-time whistle had been blown. Unfortunately, however, the incident was missed by the match officials.
The Herald also stated that Broadfoot was the one who instigated the clash. But that is unlikely to matter in any review.
Let’s not pretend this wouldn’t be an advantage
Morelos has become a parody amongst the Celtic support. His series of embarrassing misses against us over the last couple of years has led to plenty of laughs.
But it’s clear Rangers are a more dangerous side with the Colombian in it. He’s managed to bag 29 goals this season, with their back-up strikers in Kyle Lafferty and Jermaine Defoe only scoring 11 goals between them this campaign.
Celtic, regardless, should still fancy their chances anyway. Morelos is a consistently poor performer at Celtic Park, and he offered absolutely nothing when the two sides met at Parkhead back in September.
But if he isn’t playing, and Rangers have to go with Lafferty or Defoe, then all the better. Neither have been impressive this season. Morelos, at the very least, has a history of getting into good areas against us, and I personally don’t fancy continuously giving him those opportunities.
We’ll see if the compliance officer picks up on anything. This season it’s been difficult to predict the verdicts of disciplinary action.
It won’t affect Celtic’s preparation for the contest, but it would still be a slight boost nevertheleess. If he plays, however, then bring him on.
