New Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is going through a quarantine period in London and is due to meet up with players early next week, it has been reported by The Scottish Daily Mail. [16/06 print edition, page 75]
It’s stated that Postecoglou will finally arrive in Glasgow soon to meet his players for the first time since being announced as Celtic boss. The report is jointly attributed to journalists Stephen McGowan and Alison McConnell.
Celtic had previously assured supporters they would get the new manager into the country as soon as pandemic protocols allowed.
Fitness assessments have been going on at Lennoxtown today after the return of staff and non-international players. Obviously, some stars, such as the Scottish contingent, are currently on international duty.
No time to waste for Ange Postecoglou and Celtic
Postecoglou will be eager to get to work on the training ground as soon as possible. An important European qualifier is just over a month away.
Celtic have been drawn against Danish side FC Midtjylland in the Champions League second qualifying round. Victory in the tie will confirm European football until Christmas. But it’s the further potential of group stage action in the big competition that excites everyone.
It’s a massive double-header. Celtic will have to be at their best from the off to defeat the Superliga runners-up.
Postecoglou and Celtic are adamant that important work is already going on behind the scenes to prepare for the new season.
However, given the delay in appointing a new manager and still no word on the status of a football department restructure, that may not appease the majority of supporters.
It’s really on the club to prove themselves here given the last 12 months.
