Celtic managerial candidate Ange Postecoglou has been sounding out his contacts on the situation at the Bhoys and in Scottish football, The Glasgow Times reports.

Postecoglou has been heavily linked with the vacant post over the weekend, with BBC Sport believing he could be announced this week.

Celtic sensationally revealed on Friday that talks with number one target Eddie Howe had broken down, but also that they were in advanced talks with another manager.

Craig Moore, the former Rangers defender and colleague of Postecoglou has told The Glasgow Times that he’s been speaking to the 55-year-old about Celtic.

He said: “We have had some conversations over the last couple of days. Ange isn’t a silly man. There is a lot that I have been able to help him with. I know Ange and I am sure if he gets the job we will have regular conversations to make sure there is no stone left unturned and no surprises.

“I was a player liaison mentor for the national team when Ange was Australia manager. It was nothing to do with the coaching. I was basically the go-between between the players and the head coach.

“I am sure there will be an opportunity for him to bring in a coach or two if he is made Celtic manager. He has a network and has some trusted coaches who he has worked with.”

Coaching staff will be key for Celtic support

As Celtic fans continue to digest the idea of Postecoglou arriving at the club, many have pointed out that they don’t want either John Kennedy or Gavin Strachan installed at Lennoxtown as part of his staff.

There’s a theory brewing, rightly or wrongly, that coaches will be foisted on Postecoglou to the detriment of him and the club.

It remains to be seen if that is the case, but arriving with his own men would likely help with perception of the appointment. It’s obviously unlikely to be an ex-Rangers player.

Moore, an ally of Postecoglou, basically confirms the reports and rumours with his comments here. Postecoglou is at the very least in the running to take charge of Celtic, or he wouldn’t sounding people out about it.

Interesting times ahead.
