Report: Business as usual for Celtic and Neil Lennon; no discussions had over his future

Celtic fans have been hit with a frustrating update on Neil Lennon and his long-term future thanks to an early-morning Daily Record report.

The Record states that there have still been no discussions between the club’s hierarchy and Lennon regarding potentially leaving the club.

They have therefore reported that the Celtic manager is still preparing as normal for Wednesday’s visit of Hamilton Academical. That’s despite the fact the Hoops sit 23 points off Rangers in the Premiership and have very little to play for at this stage.

The report also claims that Celtic could struggle to keep hold of Odsonne Edouard as we head into the final week of the transfer window.

Celtic have failed to win a single game in 2021 – losing at Ibrox before drawing three consecutive matches after their calamitous trip to Dubai.

How on earth the topic of the manager’s future can continuously be ignored is beyond me. How bad do things genuinely need to get before serious talks are had and a swift decision is made?

I totally understand this idea of waiting until the end of the season. I can see the logic as perhaps more options become available and it wouldn’t taint the new boss with losing 10-in-a-row.

However, we’re now at a stage where there’s universal backing amongst the Celtic support to get Lennon out. There’s an anger around the fan-base that we haven’t seen since the 90s.

If a new manager comes in now it allows him to take stock of the situation. It allows him to get a good look at who will be here next season. An understanding of which players will depart the club and how big a rebuilding job he’s going to have. Which will be a mammoth one.

You also can’t underestimate the effect on the atmosphere around the club. If Celtic want to sell some season-books come renewal time, a new management team simply has to be in place that they can push to supporters.

But nah. Lennon continues to sit in his hot seat without any discussions taking place about his departure. It’s quite incredible the level of mediocrity this board is allowing Celtic to drop to before it takes action. But as incredible as it is, it won’t be surprising for many.

In other news, Celtic reportedly haven’t made any contact with Rafa Benitez.
