Swedish Report: Celtic agree terms with Carl Starfelt; medical booked in Moscow
Celtic are close to signing Rubin Kazan centre-back Carl Starfelt with a medical booked for the player, according to Swedish outlet Expressen.
The report claims that the Hoops have agreed terms with Starfelt. A medical is to be had in Moscow shortly. If everything goes as planned, the Swedish centre-back will be a Celtic player.
Expressen also reports that Celtic agreed a fee with Kazan for 50million SEK [£4.2m]. This comes after intense negotiations over the last week. Fabrizio Romano has also stated an agreement has been reached.
The move, when confirmed, will undoubtedly be a relief to Celtic fans who have been desperate to see some action on the centre-back position. Should he sign this week, Starfelt would be able to feature in next week’s UEFA Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland.
It comes a day after Israeli media claimed that Liel Abada was flying to Glasgow to add to Celtic’s right-wing options [One].
Celtic look set to make some big announcements soon with Carl Starfelt a much-needed option
So it looks as though we’re finally set to see Celtic spring into action in the transfer window. With Abada and Starfelt seemingly in the pipeline, getting those two deals over the line would be huge for the football club.
It would solve two of Celtic’s three major priority positions heading into Midtjylland. Not to mention the fact that it would see them arrive in plenty of time ahead of the new season.
Until these deals are over the line you can never be certain of anything. However, Celtic fans have a right now to feel confident over both. With the media in both Abada and Starfelt’s homeland reporting they’re off to Parkhead, there has to be something in them.
It leaves the Hoops with one more priority position still needing filled. Right-back is the only area of the pitch in terms of priorities that we still need to make a move quickly on.
Celtic have until Monday to add their new signings to the Champions League squad. Preferably, however, we have these players in the door and ready to play a part against Preston in our Saturday warm-up match.
But even so, finally it looks as though Celtic are ramping up their recruitment drive.
