Celtic are confident of landing Josip Juranovic after a major breakthrough in negotiations yesterday, according to the Herald [print edition, 18/08, back page].

The report claims that Celtic believe personal terms with the player will be swiftly concluded. This is due to the fact that the right-back wants a move to Glasgow.

Celtic are now in talks with the player’s representatives over personal terms. This comes after a £2.5million fee was agreed for his services, according to the Herald.

Juranovic unfortunately hasn’t been signed up before the UEFA deadline for AZ Alkmaar. That means the player cannot play in the first or second leg even if he’s signed up before tonight’s game at Celtic Park.

Celtic only have Anthony Ralston available as a reliable and recognised right-back. The addition of Juranovic can’t come quickly enough. However, Ralston has welcomed the potential challenge [Daily Record].

So finally this right-back saga looks like coming to an end. Juranovic is set to join the Hoops, with the club bringing in a Croatian internationalist to help boost competition levels.

It’s difficult to pinpoint when we’ll hear an official announcement from the club today. It would certainly be a nice morale-booster heading into tonight’s clash with Alkmaar, even if the new man can’t play.

The promising thing about Juranovic’s signing is that he can come in and make an immediate impact. He’s been involved in pre-season with Legia and has already played eight times this season.

He should be in a similar position fitness-wise to the rest of the Celtic first team. We won’t have to wait several weeks for the player to get himself up to speed. Something that was prevalent in our summer deals last year.

But the main thing is simply to end the right-back saga. Celtic have taken far too long to get another body in the door for that position.

The sooner Juranovic is confirmed the better. But at the very least, it looks as though the Hoops are closing in on this one.
