Report: Celtic could face offers from Leicester for Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor

Brendan Rodgers has been linked moves for Celtic duo Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney respectively.

According to the Daily Record, Rodgers could make a move for both this summer. Any move for Tierney, however, could reportedly hinge on whether Ben Chilwell stays with the Foxes or not. The Record believe that Manchester City remain keen on him.

Rodgers said in the Scotsman back in December that McGregor can easily play in the English Premier League. Rodgers was also effectively the man that got the best out of the midfielder too.

Any moves for the duo, thankfully, would need to see colossal figures from Leicester. Celtic should be dictating the negotiations of course. Both men remain on long-term contracts, so it’s all in our hands.

Rodgers’ departure from Parkhead also still hasn’t healed in the minds of many Celtic supporters. This isn’t likely to have any effect on negotiations of course.

Can’t afford to lose either

Celtic simply can’t afford to lose either of their two stars, however. There are no viable replacements in the current Celtic squad, and finding a player this summer who can have the same effect Tierney and McGregor have for the team will be difficult.

Tierney has been reported by Mundo Deportivo to be worth around £26million. That would be a record sale for the club if anyone was to come in and pay it. Rodgers, however, knows his attributes and what he can bring when fully fit. Whether Celtic would really sell for that number, however, remains to be seen.

It would also be a surprise if Leicester were the only club interested in the Celtic duo too. McGregor made over 60 appearances for club and country last season, notching a terrific 16 assists from midfield. He was the club’s most productive attacking midfielder last year. As it stands, however, only Leicester have been credited with any interest.

It’s easy to forget the importance of hanging onto key players like Tierney and McGregor. So many of us have been caught up on who’s coming into the club, whilst forgetting how vital it is to keep the spine of the current team in place.

Replacing either will be a monumental task if Celtic take the money. One day it’s likely to happen, but with 10-in-a-row so close to being achieved, the Hoops could do with keeping a hold of them for now and resisting any offers.
