Celtic have identified OH Leuven striker Thomas Henry as their potential Odsonne Edouard replacement, according to the Scottish Sun.

The report states that several clubs were in the running to bag the French frontman. However, Ange Postecoglou is said to be in pole position to land the centre-forward.

The 26-year-old has netted 45 times in 75 games for Leuven in what’s a mightily impressive goal return. Add his 12 assists onto that and you have 57 direct goal contributions in 75 matches [Transfermarkt].

It remains to be seen if Henry arrives before Edouard potentially departs. Speculation has been rife that he could be heading to Brighton [Scottish Sun]. However, there doesn’t appear to have been much progress on that one in recent times.

Henry was identified by 67HailHail several months ago as the answer to Celtic’s striking problems.

Thomas Henry to Celtic would give Hoops a different dimension

Many will point to Kyogo Furuhashi and ponder whether he was supposed to be Edouard’s replacement. However, it must also be remembered that Patryk Klimala left the club earlier this year and hadn’t been replaced.

Celtic are short in the centre-forward area should Edouard depart. And in signing Henry, the Hoops would be bagging an experienced talent who could do serious damage in Scotland.

From a Celtic perspective, this is one of the most important pieces of recruitment we could get done this summer. Not just because Henry would be Edouard’s direct replacement, but because of the physical attributes he brings to the club.

Celtic still don’t have a powerful frontman who can hold up the ball and win aerial duels. In other words, our ability to mix things up in the final third is limited.

With the service provided by the likes of Liel Abada and Ryan Christie, Henry could certainly profit at Parkhead. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks.
