Celtic are in a four-way battle to sign Tottenham left-back Ryan Sessegnon on loan, the Herald reports. The report claims that Brighton, Leeds and Southampton are also interested in the player.
Sessegnon, who is just 20 years old, signed from Fulham for £25m last summer. However, he has found it difficult to break into the first-team this season. That won’t be helped by Tottenham’s signing of Gareth Bale, which will make it even more difficult for him to feature this season.
Therefore, it seems likely that Sessegnon will make a move before the end of the transfer window, and Celtic are one of a number of clubs interested.
Hoops are in need of a left-back
Celtic, as everybody knows by now, are in need of a left-back. At the moment, the only one at the club is Greg Taylor. That is not a situation that is sustainable. It will have to change before the end of the transfer window.
That is why the Hoops are perhaps looking to sign Sessegnon. If Celtic could pull off the deal it would be a bit of a coup.
The Hoops would be signing a player just at the start of his career, but who will be playing with a point to prove, that he still belongs in the Premier League with Spurs.
Could deal with pressure games
What better way to show that than by playing for Celtic in perhaps the most pressured domestic season of them all, as the Hoops aim to win 10 in a row.
Sessegnon wouldn’t be phased by having to take part in any big games for Celtic. After all, he has already played in the Champions League.
Indeed, he has made a bit of Champions League history. Sessegnon became Spurs’ youngest ever scorer in the Champions League with a goal in the 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich last December.
That shows that the player has talent. Hopefully he can showcase that talent at Celtic Park for the rest of the season.
