Reported summer Celtic target Ben Davies is ready to leave Liverpool and reignite his career again, according to the Sheffield Star.
The Star reports that the Blades are looking to enter talks over a potential deal for the centre-backs over the next 48 hours. The report states that the player is ready to discuss potentially leaving Liverpool and moving to the Championship club.
It’s said by the Star that there could be a potential complication in any move for Davies from United’s side, however. Liverpool want to shift the player on permanently, but Sheffield boss Slavisa Jokanovic is having to broker loan deals to try and balance the books.
News of Davies being open to leaving Liverpool will be news to Celtic. After missing out on the player back in January, the Hoops were said to be interested last month [Daily Mail]. However, it was said at the time that Davies was fully committed to Liverpool and his EPL dream [The Mirror].
Davies has yet to play a single minute in Merseyside since signing back in February. Even Liverpool fans have been questioning why he was bought in the first place.
If Ben Davies is ready to re-consider his future, Celtic should be all over it
This is what everyone should’ve warned Davies about before he even signed for Liverpool. Whilst many will feel it was an opportunity he couldn’t turn game, game-time was always going to be near impossible.
It makes no sense for Liverpool to hold onto him anymore. What they’ll do is make a profit after bagging him for nothing last season. However, it’s come at the price of the player’s own career.
Nobody can say Davies’ progress hasn’t stalled at Anfield. He could’ve been integrating himself into the Celtic first-team and be a key part of the Ange Postecoglou era by now. Instead, he’ll be left wondering what’s going to happen with his long-term future.
There’ll undoubtedly be suitors. Celtic will likely have to move quickly given Sheffield United are clearly making moves. And if Liverpool are happy to sell for a reasonable fee then it’s something we should still be all over.

Davies would be a terrific left-sided centre-back option for the club. Whilst we do have four centre-backs available to feature, all are right-footed. It’s been shown early on how uncomfortable Carl Starfelt has been operating on his weaker side. Having a Davies-Starfelt combination would be a big improvement on how it’s looking at the moment.
We’ll see if Celtic move on this. But with Davies seemingly coming to terms with the fact it won’t work out on Merseyside, it’s a question worth asking again.
