Report: Celtic-linked Christopher Scott tempted by EPL move after Brentford interest

Celtic-linked German under-20 international is tempted by the prospect of moving to the English Premier League, Sky Germany reports.

Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg reported on Twitter earlier this week that the Bayern Munich attacking-midfielder had held talks with both Celtic and Brentford.

However, it looks as though Scott would be more tempted by a move to the EPL than Scotland. Sky claims that the player wants to play more regularly and is “flirting” with a move to England.

It remains to be seen if there is any further interest from England outside of Brentford. But the latest update would appear to put them in pole position for Scott’s services.

Bayern have the option to extend his contract beyond the summer if they wish. If they do so, Sky report that it would cost clubs €600k [£500k] to sign him up.

It’s also claimed in the report that some unnamed Bundesliga clubs are also keen on a deal.

Christopher Scott to Celtic looking more unlikely

The latest update from Sky would appear to make it unlikely that Scott makes a move to Celtic this summer. Even if he’s into the final year of his contract, it could be the case that he’s eyeing playing in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Granted, Celtic could potentially offer him the chance of Champions League football should we win the title this season. That would give Scott the opportunity to showcase his skills in club football’s biggest competition. Again, that only stresses the importance of us getting the job done and winning the league this season.

But even so, this is partly in Bayern’s hands too. They could decide to extend the player’s contract and then all of a sudden nobody is able to nab him for free. Instead, a fee would be required and it’s not certain whether this would be something that would interest the Hoops.

It probably doesn’t help that many of his compatriots are currently plying their trade in England’s top league. He’ll likely view England as the ideal place to eventually break into the Germany first-team.

All we can do is wait and see where Scot chooses to go in the end and whether he’s even allowed to depart. It still hasn’t been clarified when he first held talks with the Hoops. Albeit it will have had to have been in 2022.

But if the EPL is the place he’s eyeing up next, then Brentford would look to be the favourites to nab him.
