Report: Celtic-linked Josip Juranovic missed Legia Warsaw game due to injury

Celtic-linked right-back Josip Juranovic missed yesterday’s Legia Warsaw game due to injury, according to the Daily Record.

Juranovic has been speculated as being one of Celtic’s key targets this summer. According to Index in Croatia, however, the latest is that Legia want too much for their star man. Celtic were first linked last week, with Sky Sports stating he would cost £2.5m and that the Croat was keen to join the club.

And yesterday, some may have been confused as to why he didn’t feature for Legia. After all, he’d started their last seven matches.

However, the Record reports that he sat out due to an injury picked up in last week’s UEFA Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb. Not because of any pending move to Parkhead.

The rumour mill was undoubtedly going to go into overdrive after Juranovic’s absence for Legia. However, given they soundly beat Warta Poznan 2-0, there was clearly no need to risk him.

Juranovic will likely be back in the Legia side for Thursday’s Europa League qualifier against Slavia Prague. So long of course as there is no extensive damage from his injury.

Celtic move for Josip Juranovic slipping further away

Last week, a move for the Croatian right-back to Glasgow looked a certainty. Now, it’s looking a lot further away with no imminent agreement being reached.

Whilst Yan Couto could potentially be a decent option on loan from Man City, you can’t help but be drawn to what Juranovic offers. A regular in the Croatia setup, the right-back has exactly the kind of profile we would want at Parkhead.

He’s already a winner after securing last season’s Ekstraklasa title with Warsaw. He also has both international and European experience to his name. Not to mention the fact he would arrive at Parkhead with over 200 senior appearances to his name for Hajduk Split, Legia, and Croatia respectively [Transfermarkt].

Most importantly, we would be able to sign him permanently. Another chance for Postecoglou to place in another piece of his Celtic jigsaw. Not one he would have to again replace in 12 months’ time.

But unfortunately, Juranovic doesn’t appear to be going anywhere just yet. Celtic have still to reach an agreement with Warsaw, and nothing looks imminent.

And as much of a killjoy as it is, there’s no point reading into his absence yesterday either.
