Reported Celtic target Siriki Dembele is being valued at around £4million by English Championship club Peterborough United, according to the Sun.

The report states that three English clubs want him, but are only willing to pay £2.5m. Fulham, Bournemouth, and Stoke City are all said to be eyeing up the young Scottish talent.

Celtic were first linked with a move for Dembele back in November in a bid to help his brother, Karamoko, commit his future to Parkhead [TEAMtalk]. The Hoops were again linked back in March as we closed in on the summer transfer window [Give Me Sport].

However, despite being into the final year of his contract, Peterborough have remained stubborn. Director of Football Barry Fry claimed that the player could be worth £15m to the club in terms of what they could get out of him this season [The Transfer Tavern].

Local outlet Peterborough Today reported earlier this month that Siriki was favouring a move back to Scotland. And with his Celtic connection in younger brother Karamoko, Parkhead would surely be an attractive proposition.

Ange took responsibility, now the Celtic board must do the same

Signing Siriki Dembele from Peterborough United will be no easy task for Celtic

It’s not as if Celtic have shown that they won’t splash this kind of cash out this summer. On the contrary, Liel Abada, Carl Starfelt, and Kyogo Furuhashi have all been signed for big-money moves.

If Celtic truly felt Dembele was worth £4m, it’s something they would likely consider.

Yet what could sway things in our favour regarding a move in January instead is Dembele’s contract situation. If the player doesn’t sign a new deal, he can likely be bagged for a cut-price figure in the new year. Dependent on what that figure is, it could save Celtic millions.

Peterborough would likely be very tricky to do business with this summer too. They’ve proved to be a frustrating club for Celtic to do business with. Owner Darragh McAnthony has certainly had his run-ins with the Hoops in the past [BBC 5 Live].

This is all still assuming that Celtic remain interested of course. Ange Postecoglou is now in charge meaning there’s a different regime in place from when we were first linked with the player. Then again, Dembele will likely still be on a candidate list that Ange has perused.

As things stand, the winger, who bagged 12 goals last season [Transfermarkt], is preparing to kick off the new campaign with the Championship club.
