The Daily Record has reported that Celtic are still looking to add a winger to their ranks before the transfer deadline.
Clubs have until midnight in Scotland to wrap up their mid-season transfer plans. At the time of writing, Celtic have so far failed to complete any deals. However, a move for Jonjoe Kenny is reportedly all but done [Sky Sports].
That solves Celtic’s right-back problem. However, the club still has a winger as one of its main priorities before the window closes tonight, the Record states.
That’s despite the fact we’ve yet to get any joy on a centre-back. The Hoops are still in desperate need of another central defender with injuries to Chris Jullien and Nir Bitton respectively. As of yet, it’s anyone’s guess as to who that player will be.
And the same goes for another wide-man too. With James Forrest injured, Celtic have been playing without a natural right-sided winger in their front-line. An issue that’s caused us real problems in several different formations.
Celtic could do with two more in before deadline
It’s difficult to see who that winger could be. There have been no names linked with Parkhead that fit the bill so far today. And considering we’re now trickling past 4pm at the time of writing, the day is getting on.
We’re aware things can be done quickly on deadline day, but this is an issue that really should’ve been sorted before now.
In recent windows, Celtic have been linked with the likes of Christian Atsu [Sports World Ghana], Bright Osayi-Samuel [Scottish Sun], and Gyrano Kerk [Daily Record]. Yet not one of these moves materialised, with Osayi-Samuel now having already wrapped up a pre-contract deal with Fenerbahce.

We’ve spoken in the past about how Celtic have neglected this position for too long. There’s still time for them not to make that same mistake this month. And, in fairness, it’s promising to see that it may still be a real target for them.
But as is the case in any transfer window, leaving it till deadline day is always a risk. Forrest has been sidelined stretching all the way back to September. We’ve been playing without a natural right-winger since then. Why on earth someone hadn’t been sourced long before now is absolutely mind-boggling.
We’ll see if Celtic pull something out of the hat here. But as of yet, with time ticking on, there are absolutely no guarantees this one will get over the line.
