Celtic midfielder Liam Shaw didn’t manage to make his Motherwell debut last night due to injury, the Daily Record reports.

Shaw has signed on at Fir Park for the rest of the season in a loan agreement. The idea being that he finally manages to put a strong run of games together and comes back to pre-season a stronger player.

He looked primed for his debut against Ross County last night in what would’ve been a decent introduction into his new club. However, the Record state that Shaw missed the match due to picking up an as of yet unknown injury.

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander has yet to reveal what the problem is. The hope of course being that this isn’t anything long-term and the player can slot back into action on Saturday against Greenock Morton.

Shaw hasn’t featured for Celtic since the December 9th win over Real Betis in the Europa League. With only 2 appearances all season, the next 5 months will be crucial for his development.

Motherwell lost 3-1 in Dingwall last night, and Shaw will hopefully be a major part in them bouncing back.

Liam Shaw will be itching to make imminent first-team appearance

A blow undoubtedly, and hopefully it isn’t anything major. It’s a huge opportunity for Liam and he’ll be wanting to make a quick start as soon as he can.

Motherwell were bossed for large periods of last night’s game and ended the match against 10 men too. They could certainly do with Liam’s composure in the middle of the park, something we’ve seen already this season.

Against Real Betis, Shaw looked in decent form. His ball-retention was tidy whilst he added some real physical presence and athleticism to his game. Seeing those traits grow will certainly be exciting in the second half of the campaign.

Motherwell themselves will have their own goals they’ll be looking to achieve this season. It’s not just about personal development for Shaw. He’ll also have to work his damnest to help the Steelmen stay in the top 6 and potentially battle for a European spot.

There’s going to be real pressure on his young shoulders when he’s fit. Motherwell will likely expect a lot from him over the next 5 months, whilst the watchful eyes from Celtic Park will also be gazing in his direction.

Hopefully, he’s fit and available for Saturday.
