Report: Celtic not considering move for Benfica midfielder Alfa Semedo
The Hoops were said to be one of several clubs interested in the midfielder. But, it wasn’t clear how much of an early interest they had as of yet.
However, further reports from Diario de Transferencias on Tuesday afternoon in the midfielder’s homeland seem to suggest that Semedo was closing in on a move to Parkhead
The report stated that Celtic had agreed an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer, which would see the Bhoys pay around €2.5 million.
Despite some questioning the reliability of this supposed deal, there seemed to be some logic behind a potential move, with Ange Postecoglou on the hunt for another midfield option this window.
However, a report from Football Scotland this afternoon has cleared this up, stating that Celtic are NOT interested in making a move for the former Benfica youngster.
After the exit of Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic, there is no doubting that Postecoglou will bring in another midfield player to join his squad.
But, it seemed unlikely from the start of our links to Semedo that he would be that man.
Having only signed for Vitoria de Guimaraes last summer and still having a long-term contract there, the deal didnt seem to make much sense for the Portuguese side.
Celtic have now entered transfer silly season
We are only 12 days into the summer window, but Celtic are now fully amidst transfer silly season.
So far, Ange Postecoglou’s side has been linked with upwards of 30 different players as the Celtic manager looks to add to his squad for the season ahead.
Of course, some of those links are genuine, with the club having signed Ben Siegrist and Cameron Carter-Vickers, whilst also chasing Benfica loanee Jota.
However, the majority of the speculation surrounding Celtic and their links to new recruits seems to be instigated by clubs and agents to entice other clubs into making a move for a player.
As mentioned, the transfer window has only just begun. So we are in for a long summer full of players being linked with a move to Glasgow.
Postecoglou has previously made it clear that he knows what he wants when it comes to new signings, and he won’t be sucked into all of this speculation, which he is bound to be asked about during this summer.
