Incoming Celtic CEO Dominic McKay is on the brink of standing down from his position at the Scottish Rugby Union this week, The Daily Record has reported.
Journalist Keith Jackson reckons he is now set to take up his position at Celtic three months earlier than intended.
It’s said an announcement could even be made to the stock exchange tomorrow morning confirming the news, following an extended Easter bank holiday.
Celtic have already announced he is coming into the club, replacing the outgoing Peter Lawwell.
Lawwell will continue at the Bhoys for now, working hand in hand with McKay over the next three months to help transition between regimes, Jackson reports.
McKay has his work cut out from the off, with major changes occurring at all levels of the club following the end of our run of league titles.
Massive success has been enjoyed by supporters over the last decade but after a dismal Scottish Premiership campaign and no progress made in Europe, it’s time for a fresh start.
Why is Dominic McKay arriving at Celtic early?
With Eddie Howe potentially coming into the club, as well as a new director of football, McKay will want to have his finger as close to the pulse as possible ahead of the new season.
July was always an unrealistic timeline to start considering the importance of European qualifiers and how quickly new seasons roll around in Scotland.
There’s simply too much to do for McKay to linger on at the SRU.

It’d also be great to hear from him. Beyond his initial statement when announced, Celtic supporters have been left in the dark on his intentions and plans over the next few months and years.
It’s almost time for Celtic to fully unveil the rebuild.
