Read MoreReport: Celtic option-to-buy fee for Jota just over £6m
Celtic will have to splash out £6m to sign Benfica winger Jota on a permanent deal next summer, Sky Sports reports.
The Hoops completed the signing of the Portuguese under-21 international tonight on a season-long loan deal. The club confirmed that an option-to-buy exists in the agreement.
Jota will arrive in Glasgow having already secured first-team experience with both Benfica and Real Valladolid respectively.
And if the move is a success, Celtic will have the opportunity to secure their new loan signing on a permanent deal worth £6m [Sky Sports].
The inclusion of the clause is a signal of intent from all parties to make this a long-term arrangement. A big season now awaits the player as he looks to secure a future in Glasgow.
Time will tell whether Celtic could land a bargain with Jota
Jota adds something we’ve been missing for too long – cover on the left flank. Mohamed Elyounoussi left Celtic in the summer, whilst Mikey Johnston has been sidelined since pre-season.

In addition to that, Ryan Christie, who has been operating on occasion for Celtic down the left flank, has left for Bournemouth. Therefore, securing Jota finally provides us with a reliable option in the position.
When Johnston returns, it means Celtic will have two tricky left-wingers available for selection. Liel Abada has also proven he can operate there if necessary.
So it’s a good move for the Hoops at face value. Whilst the loan market can at times be heavily criticised, this gives Celtic a no-risk option. If things don’t work out, Jota heads back to Portugal. If they do? We know the price we can bag him for.
Let’s just hope he can prove to be the left-wing option we’ve desperately needed.
