Celtic are set to receive a £20million offer for Odsonne Edouard after tomorrow night’s game in Midtjylland, the Daily Mail reports.

The Mail believes that Crystal Palace are also interested in the Frenchman’s services. However, Brighton have been tipped to step up their £20m pursuit of the striker.

Edouard is currently with the Celtic camp in Denmark preparing to tackle Midtjylland in their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round second leg at the MCH Arena.

The player is into the final year of his contract. However, despite consistent summer interest, a move has yet to be agreed elsewhere. There remains no sign of him signing an extended deal at Parkhead.

Celtic have already signed Kyogo Furuhashi. However, should Edouard depart, another centre-forward option will be needed.

If Celtic bank £20m for Odsonne Edouard post-Midtjylland, it’s a win

Edouard’s only goal at the moment will be to down the Danes in their own backyard. Only by doing that will he boost his profile further. It could even be the difference between a club moving for him and deciding to look elsewhere.

Not many Celtic fans will have been impressed with the form the Frenchman is currently in. Despite banging home 22 goals last season, it was still a poor return for what we expect from a player of his ability.

In addition to that, he’s come back to pre-season and again struggled to get going. There were some promising signs against West Ham United in the first half on Saturday, but even that’s pushing it to an extent. We’ve yet to see an impressive all-round performance since his return

So if Celtic can bank £20m given the circumstances, it would be a fine win for the club. Of course, it’s important to keep in mind the hefty sell-on fee PSG have in any deal.

That’s most likely why Celtic are looking to ramp up as much interest as possible. The higher a fee we get, the less painful the sell-on fee becomes.

Hopefully we can put the Edouard stuff to bed in the coming days or weeks. With Midtjylland closing in tomorrow night, we’ll see what happens after that one.
