Celtic defender Anthony Ralston has been told by the club he has no future at Celtic Park, website Video Celts reports this week.

Citing a source, the outlet also states that Ralston was left out of the squad that travelled to Loughborough University and France.

He will now be let go, potentially for a token fee and sell-on clause, with just a year left on his current contract at the club.

Ralston was once a contender to play regularly at right-back, making his debut as a teenager way back at the end of the Ronny Deila era against St Johnstone.

In Brendan Rodgers’ second season he got his first real opportunity to impress, playing in seven matches across August and September, including against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stage.

However, injury problems, alongside loans to Dundee United and St Johnstone, have halted his Celtic progress and now aged 21 appears to be on the verge of a Hoops exit.

Jeremie Frimpong has been an exciting Neil Lennon project over the last 12 months and the manager can also call upon experienced international Hatem Abd Elhamed in the position.

With Lee O’Connor also capable of playing at right-back, Celtic will have plenty of options beyond Ralston for the coming season.

Hopefully he will have no issues finding a club that can value his ability and it’s unfortunate he hasn’t quite managed to make the grade at his boyhood team.
