Celtic want to have David Turnbull signed up at Parkhead before they face Ferencvaros tomorrow, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Sun has reported that a final fee for Turnbull has yet to be agreed between the Hoops and Motherwell.

However, the newspaper believes that Celtic are looking to get a deal done for Turnbull before they take to the field tomorrow night against Ferencvaros in their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round match.

Turnbull, if he signs, wouldn’t be eligible to face the Hungarians due to his arrival being so close to the contest. Celtic will have already submitted their squad to UEFA by the time the player arrives.

However, it could put the Motherwell man in line for a debut against his former club on Sunday. The Steelmen visit Celtic Park this weekend, and with Turnbull having already had a full pre-season and regular game-time, he should already be up to speed.

Turnbull has earned his Celtic move

We all hope that there will be no late hitches this time around. Remember, Turnbull was set to sign for the Hoops last summer only for him to fail his medical and require an operation.

However, he’s roared back to life at Fir Park since the start of the season. Turnbull has started all five of Motherwell’s Premiership games, completing 90 minutes in three of them.

His character cannot be questioned after the setback he endured last summer. For other players, that could’ve been enough for them to go into their shell. But Turnbull has shown he’s made of sterner stuff.

The Scottish Sun has stated that Newcastle and other English clubs have been taking a look at the player. Turnbull, however, wants to join Celtic and make his mark at Parkhead.

It’s clear the player remains frustrated over what went on last year. He has something to prove to the Celtic support, and signing up for what is potentially our 10-in-a-row season will give him a further boost.

Motherwell are in action against Glentoran on Thursday night in a one-legged Europa League qualifier. It remains to be seen if they dig their heels in and look to field Turnbull in that one. But all signs point towards an imminent departure for the midfielder.
