Celtic want to bring in Legia Warsaw right-back Josip Juranovic before their tie against AZ Alkmaar, according to the Glasgow Times.

Celtic are due to face the Dutch side tomorrow. That means they have a deadline of midnight tonight to add to their squad for the two-legged playoff.

If Celtic fail to bring in Juranovic today, it will mean that Anthony Ralston is the only option in the right-back position once again. Celtic have been in desperate need of right-back recruits all summer.

The Glasgow Times reports that Celtic are getting into crunch talks with Legia, and have offered the Polish outfit £2m for Juranovic. This is less than the reported £3m the Ekstraklasa side is said to want [Daily Record].

Juranovic is said to be keen on a move to Celtic Park [Sky Sports]. However, the club have yet to be given permission to speak to the player as they continue to try and negotiate a fee.

Celtic need Josip Juranovic in today if they want him available for Alkmaar

It looks as though Ralston will definitely feature in the home leg tomorrow night. Even if Juranovic is signed at some stage today, he won’t have enough time to train with his teammates before the game.

However, he would have time to be ready for next week’s return leg in the Netherlands. With a Saturday game against St Mirren a kind-looking fixture for a potential debut, there’s an opportunity there for Celtic to get him up to speed.

Of course, there shouldn’t be any issues with Juranovic’s fitness levels. He’s been spending pre-season with Legia and was part of the Croatia squad for Euro 2020.

Juranovic should be ready to come in and make an immediate impact. Something Celtic desperately need from any right-back signing they secure this summer.

Whilst Ralston has been making steady improvements this summer, Alkmaar away from home is a different prospect. That isn’t a fixture we should be taking risks in. Celtic fans would feel a lot more comfortable with a Croatian international operating at right-back than Ralston.

So we’ll see whether Celtic can get this one over the line at some stage today. We could certainly do with that being the case.
