A report claims that Celtic are set to battle it out with Watford to sign a goalkeeping starlet.
The Daily Record has revealed that both the Hoops and the Premier League side are interested in signing Hearts goalkeeper Harry Stone.
The player is only at the very start of his career, and is yet to sign a professional contract.
However, he must have something about him if two high-profile sides are interested in signing the player.
Premier League side ‘confident’
The report goes on to mention that Watford are ‘confident’ that they will win the race to sign the player.
Should win the battle to sign the player, it would be a few years before he gets anywhere near the Hoops first team.
He would definitely be a player for the development squad. The reported interest in the player could indicate that Celtic are set to offload some goalkeepers in the summer though.
Too many goalkeepers
The Hoops currently have four senior goalkeepers on their books. Scott Bain, Craig Gordon, Dorus De Vries and Conor Hazard.
That is too many, and at least one should be leaving the club this summer. De Vries’ contract is set to expire in the summer, so it is almost certain that he will depart.
Gordon’s future could be in doubt too, after he lost his place in the Celtic side to Bain.
It looks like a case of ‘wait and see’ to find out if Stone moves to Celtic. Even if he does though, it will be a good while before he makes it into the first team squad.
