Craig Gordon is keen to leave Celtic before the transfer window closes, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun reports that the player, who is currently second choice goalkeeper at the Hoops behind Fraser Forster, has ‘begged’ the club to allow him to leave before Friday’s deadline, and Hearts are reportedly interested in bringing the player back to Tynecastle.

However, the report goes on to claim that although Celtic won’t stand in the player’s way of wanting regular football, Neil Lennon wants to sign a replacement first before granting Gordon’s exit.

Only two fit goalkeepers in squad

Scott Bain is injured with a thumb injury and Conor Hazard has joined Dundee on loan, meaning that the Hoops only have two goalkeepers on the books that are fit, Gordon and Fraser Forster.

Therefore, it makes sense that the Hoops will want to bring a replacement in before allowing Gordon to exit.

It is understandable why Gordon is keen to move on though. His contract expires at the end of the season, and the chances of him getting a new one would seem to be remote.

Not been a regular for the Hoops

The player has not been a regular for the Hoops over the past year. He has made only six appearances for the club this season.

A move away from Celtic would perhaps allow him to be a first-choice goalkeeper once more.

Should Gordon end up leaving before the end of the window, then his time at the club would have to be considered a success.

He was a key man for the Hoops in the invincible domestic season of 2016-17. He made 55 appearances that season.

Gordon has won a host of trophies with the club – including five league titles – and his time at the club has undeniably been a success.

But should the Hoops get a replacement in, then it does seem right for Gordon to leave the club.
