Report: Celtic won't be signing James Lea Siliki

Celtic reportedly won’t be making a move for French midfielder James Lea Siliki.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Hoops won’t be making a move for the Rennes man. The report states that there is no interest from Neil Lennon in the midfielder. French Football News claimed that RMC believed Celtic had made an approach to the Ligue 1 side for the midfielder.

That started to get some real traction in the Scottish press this afternoon. A host of the nation’s top sources ran with the story. But The Sun appears to have looked into it further, and understand that Celtic aren’t interested.

At face value, it looked like it would’ve been a potential replacement for Olivier Ntcham. Ntcham isn’t anywhere near out the exit door as of yet, however. There’s been no reported offer for him, and therefore signing his replacement would perhaps be a tad hasty.

James Lea Siliki apparently not on our radar

The Sun does believe that Celtic are still looking for midfield options. So far, the club has managed to part ways with Youssouf Mulumbu, but Luca Connell has been signed too.

The Hoops have Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, Ntcham, Ryan Christie, Connell, Nir Bitton, and Eboue Kouassi available for the engine room roles. Adding another body into the mix would surely mean the end of the road for one of the current fringe players.

Siliki, meanwhile, is a total unknown to the Celtic support. It will certainly increase the intrigue around Saturday afternoon’s clash with Rennes at Celtic Park. A positive performance there and Lennon may very well suddenly gain some interest in him!

But, in all seriousness, there are other positions that take priority at the moment. A right-back or two, as well as another centre-back, will hopefully be next in the revolving Parkhead door.

Any midfield options that Celtic are looking at shouldn’t be priorities unless it’s a third number 10 to rival Christie and Tom Rogic.

But as for Siliki, it looks like we can rule out a move for him at this moment in time.
