Celtic midfielder Callum McGrgeor is set to miss at least seven games for the Bhoys but the club hope his absence can be limited to four weeks, The Scottish Daily Mail has reported today. [24/01 print edition, back page]
The paper report that McGregor will undergo surgery for a fractured cheekbone this week and that he’s set to miss crucial matches against Rangers and Bodo/Glimt over the coming period.
However, Celtic hope that by eventually wearing a protective face mask his injury time out won’t be extended for weeks and weeks more.

The outlet believes he can return comfortably in time for Scotland international matches in March if the worst case scenario is avoided.
Ultimately we will not get a definitive update on McGregor until Ange Postecoglou speaks to the press, but of all the reports in the Scottish media over the last two days, this one seems the most detailed with the most information.
It goes without saying that the club captain will be badly missed in the starting eleven. Not only is he the dressing room leader but he provides great presence and composure in the middle of the park. He’s one of our best players.
Celtic do have alternative options, most notably Yosuke Ideguchi and James McCarthy, but neither have yet proven they can step up to show the consistency McGregor has.
However, they now have massive opportunities to truly make a name for themselves in a Celtic shirt.
In other news, “Won’t be afraid of anything”; Defiant Postecoglou signing already gets what Tynecastle means for Celtic.
