Forgotten Celtic midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu could be heading to join Frank Lampard’s Derby County.

The Scottish Sun reports that they will try and make a shock deadline day move.

However, the Rams will apparently have a fight on their hands with Kilmarnock also on his coat tails.

Mulumbu could end Celtic career in England

With a lot of competition for places, the 32-year-old isn’t pushing into the first team.

Having only three appearances under his belt, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Congolese international wanting more game time.

Derby are in the play-off spot in the English Championship with a few clubs breathing down their neck.

Perhaps Lampard wants an experienced head to come in and shore up the midfield.

However, it will take time for him to reach that level of fitness if a move comes to fruition.

Kilmarnock could recapture Congolese’s form

Mulumbu got his Celtic move thanks to his year stint at Rugby Park under Steve Clarke.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to continue that under the pressures at Paradise.

His last senior Celtic appearance against RB Leipzig showed that he wasn’t at that level now.

He did make a shock appearance for the reserve side against Partick Thistle at Lesser Hampden a few days ago.

Killie are arguably the best and most suited team for Mulumbu as they are aiming to fight Rangers for runners-up in the Scottish Premiership.

Clarke is a fantastic manager and already was able to get the best out of him and can do it again.

Wherever he ends up, Mulumbu will have an affect as an older head and experienced leader.

The English Championship promotion fight may be too much but he will give it a go.

This said, a return to Kilmarnock would be the best for all parties.
