Report: Chelsea failed in last-minute attempt to lure Bosun Lawal from Celtic
Chelsea made a late approach to Bosun Lawal in an attempt to beat Celtic to his signature, according to the Herald.
The report claims that the Stamford Bridge club arrived at the last minute to swoop for the Watford starlet. However, the player’s mind had already been made up on Celtic.
It’s also said by the Herald that we beat Norwich City as well as interest from Italy and Croatia respectively. As of yet, the player has yet to be officially announced by the club.
English clubs would’ve had to go through a process to understand the fee they would’ve needed to pay for the Irish midfielder too. Celtic, however, will land him for £120k [The Herald].
Chelsea fail to pip Celtic to exciting Irish talent
It’s great to read from a Celtic perspective that Lawal has effectively chosen us over an alternative EPL move. It reflects well on the Hoops and helps our profile.
Granted, nothing can be taken for granted just yet. Hopefully, it gets wrapped up by the end of the week and we can add an exciting player to the academy.
Celtic are clearly looking to stock up their youth ranks after key losses in recent years. The likes of Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide are two examples of that.
Lawal will arrive in Glasgow with a fine reputation despite never having played a senior game. He was recently bigged up by Watford captain Troy Deeney, who predicted him to have a big career in the game [Watford Twitter].
It’s unclear whether the midfielder will go straight into the B side or whether he’ll spend pre-season training with the first-team.
But first of all we need the deal to get over the line officially. All eyes on Celtic then.
