Former Celtic forward Nadir Ciftci has been linked with a return to Scotland, but he wouldn’t face the Hoops this season.
That’s because the club who have been linked with the Turk are Championship side Dundee.
Local paper the Dundee Courier report that Ciftci is “high on the list of targets” for Dee boss James McPake as he plots promotion from the second-tier this term.
The 28-year-old has been back playing in his homeland in recent season, with the likes of Genclerbirligi and Rizespor.
But the latter of those hasn’t worked out and Ciftci could seemingly be on the move again.
The forward scored 4 goals in 15 league games at Celtic, but never really lived up to the hype following his move from Dundee United.
Ciftci return to Dundee would be interesting
Ciftci returning to Tayside to play for United’s rivals would certainly be a talking point – and for that reason we’d love to see it happen.
He wouldn’t face either the Terrors or ourselves this season on league duty, although a cup meeting could still occur.
Ciftci has struggled badly for goals since signing for us in 2015 – and hasn’t netted any more than four league strikes in any season, other than 2018/2019.
However, he would still be a very capable player at Scottish Championship level – as he goes up against the likes of Craig Gordon in a two-horse promotion fight with Hearts.
He’s usually box-office wherever he goes. If this move comes off, it would be no different.
