Report claims Kieran Tierney wants to leave Celtic

The Daily Mirror last night reported that Kieran Tierney wants to leave for Arsenal, with the Gunners having dropped their interest.

Only this morning, the Daily Record reported that Celtic had rejected a third offer from Arsenal, and that the deal was now off. The Mirror even hinted at it last night when they suggested that Unai Emery had moved on to other alternatives.

That’s all well and good, but once again Tierney’s stance has been reported too. The Mirror claim that he was “very keen” to move to Arsenal this summer.

The only problem there is that this isn’t backed up in previous reports regarding where Tierney stood on the matter. It was revealed by the Daily Record just last week that Tierney wasn’t willing to push for a move. He would apparently only consider anything that came his way if it was accepted by Celtic.

It’s fair to say, regardless of whether you like the Record or not, that their sources have been much more reliable during the Tierney saga than anyone else.

And if you want further proof of Tierney’s attitude during the saga, just ask Neil Lennon. He hasn’t once claimed that there’s been any frustration on Tierney’s part. Instead, he’s been continuing to recover from his injury without a word.

Lennon would know whether Tierney wanted a move. Better yet, Celtic as a club would’ve known how Tierney felt. If they believed that there was any risk of him downing tools or being “very keen” to move, they likely wouldn’t be so bullish in their transfer negotiations.

Sure, perhaps Tierney would’ve spoken to Arsenal had Celtic accepted a bid. He’s only human after all. But there’s been nothing in Tierney’s demeanour over the last month or so to suggest he’s anything other than fully committed to Celtic.

Supporters shouldn’t be concerned by any reports of Tierney allegedly wanting this move to Arsenal or anywhere else. His attitude throughout doesn’t give off the impression that he’s itching to leave anytime soon. And if he is eyeing up a move in the near future, he certainly isn’t showing it.

Lennon and Celtic have been doing their best to keep Tierney out of the spotlight. It would be incredibly surprising if Tierney has revealed to anyone outside of his family that he’s “very keen” to leave.

This smacks of bitterness that Arsenal just couldn’t cough up the money to get their man. And at the end of the day, KT remains a Celt, and it continues to look that way for the foreseeable future.
