David Turnbull’s decision has reportedly been made, as he apparently gets set to sign for Celtic.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Motherwell midfielder has chosen to join the Hoops after several days of deadlocked talks. The midfielder’s agent rejected a previous contract from Celtic last week.

Celtic had agreed a £3million fee with Motherwell for their player last week too (Scottish Sun). The Steelmen confirmed the initial agreement on their official website.

The Sun believes that one of the key details of Turnbull’s decision was the opportunity of first-team football. If Celtic do manage to sign him up in the coming days, it would allow the club to move on to more priority positions needing strengthening.

Turnbull would also join a healthy number of talented midfielders already at the club. Therefore, the youngster would have a big task on his hands breaking into the side.

Turnbull now must win over the disgruntled supporters

The Motherwell man, if he signs, now has a bigger job ahead of him than he originally had. First and foremost, he’ll need to win over the supporters who aren’t happy with his knockback of the initial contract. Some fans wanted the club to take the deal off the table, so there will be an element of anger there.

Of course, good performances tend to make these kinds of things go away. Turnbull has it in him to break into this Celtic side, but it’s whether he can show the consistency required to stay there.

The youngster managed 15 goals from midfield for Motherwell last season. Impressively, that’s more than any Celtic midfielder managed last year. It’s important not to underestimate just how phenomenal a return that is from a midfielder at a club like Motherwell.

The deal has still to be signed of course. But it would hardly be surprising if Turnbull did make the move after the initial rejection. This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for him. England is always going to be there for him in the future if things work out well.

Avoiding the unforgiving nature of English football is important for someone like Turnbull at the moment. If it’s in his desire to go down there one day, it’s vital he boosts his profile and development at a club like Celtic. The Hoops, meanwhile, could rake in another mega-money fee if he develops appropriately.

But it looks like the Motherwell youngster may have made up his mind. If and when he signs, however, that’s when the hard work begins.
