Eddie Howe has been quietly planning in the background for the Celtic job during this period of supposed uncertainty at the club, The Scottish Sun has reported.
Celtic supporters are understandably anxious about the future of the club. It’s been months since Neil Lennon resigned and the club have given no real indication what the future holds.
Even the sale of season tickets has been severely delayed.
With less then 12 weeks to go until the first UEFA Champions League qualifier, fans know that the task of any new Celtic manager is enormous.
However, it seems that Howe has already been going about the task of putting together his team for the challenge.
The Scottish Sun say he has spent the last few weeks, since meeting senior Celtic executives in London, reaching out to contacts in the game and doing his homework on what’s needed at Celtic.
He’s also been putting together the backroom team he wants to join him at Celtic, both in the dugout and in the player recruitment department.
As has been reported elsewhere this week, he’s keen on Bournemouth coaching duo Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone joining him in Glasgow.
It seems there’s none of the drama some have assumed is going on behind-the-scenes. Some pundits have urged Celtic to get Howe in the door sooner or accused the former Bournemouth boss of dragging his heels on making a decision.
The reality is likely far more boring, but constructive, for Celtic.
I am still firmly of the belief we are well down the road with Howe. There would have been a loosening of reporting on the situation if it wasn’t a goer.
If anything, the links are getting stronger and more inevitable.
Only a complete u-turn is going to stop this from happening now.
In other news, it appears the Newcastle fans rate Celtic’s Kris Ajer extremely highly.
