Free-agent manager Eddie Howe has sought out the advice of former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers when considering taking up the vacant position at the Hoops, The Mirror reports.

Howe continues to be strongly linked with a move to Glasgow.

It’s not stated in the report exactly when Howe contacted Rodgers about the potential appointment, but it’s at least promising he’s put in the research. It demonstrates he’s taking the whole thing seriously.

Rodgers remains on good terms with Celtic as a club and institution, if not the supporters themselves.

Players, staff members and the club continue to speak in positive terms about the former boss, who left in controversial circumstances for Leicester City.

It’s likely then that the Foxes manager provided Howe with a glowing review of what’s on offer at the Bhoys.

The career of Rodgers was revitalised after leaving Liverpool and it could prove to be the same for Howe after his unceremonious Bournemouth exit last year.

Rodgers also knows everything about the media landscape, outsides pressures and expectation north of the border.

If anyone can give Howe a lesson on what to expect, it’s the Leicester man.

As ever, we wait and see what the next major development on the Howe to Celtic saga is.

Will the arrival of Dominic McKay next week shake things up and at least bring a significant reported update?

In other news, Celtic made last-ditch attempt to retain Scott Brown.
