A report from the Scottish Sun has explained what Gordon Strachan will actually be doing at Celtic.
The newspaper states that the former Hoops boss will begin working at the club tomorrow in a senior advisory role. It was said that principal shareholder Dermot Desmond was behind the move to bring him to Parkhead.

This will see Strachan quit his job as a Technical Director with Dundee to take up his new role in Glasgow. The Sun reports that the Hoops have been making major backroom changes at the football club.
However, many will be asking what Strachan will actually be doing in his new job. It’s claimed in the report that one of his main tasks will be to revamp the club’s academy youth academy and assess coaching throughout the age groups.
The Daily Record state that Strachan won’t have any influence on first-team affairs. Instead, he’ll be implementing his own ideas on player development and will come up with a strategy for the club moving forward.
The Record believes Strachan and Dom McKay have been in discussions over the last several months about the new role.
Gordon Strachan to reportedly return to Celtic again; fans likely to be mixed
Nobody can deny Strachan’s success as a Celtic manager in the past. He won three-in-a-row and managed to make the UCL last-16 on two occasions. On reflection, the work he did here probably doesn’t get the credit it deserves at times.
However, this isn’t a particularly great look. The idea that Desmond is behind it for a start is a concern. Not just because of the fact that it gives off the impression of “jobs for the boys”, but that this isn’t something seeked out by Ange Postecoglou.
All we can do as fans is hope that the manager has okayed this. We don’t need major backroom decisions like this being made above Postecoglou’s head. It helps nobody, regardless of how much experience Strachan may have.
You also have to question the difference in Postecoglou and Strachan’s playing styles and whether this will affect how they see certain things. The latter preferred a route one system with a two-striker pairing to play off one another. Postecoglou, meanwhile, puts his focus on playing out from the back.
Not that the manager will tap into Strachan’s experience on playing styles. It’s already been reported that Strachan won’t get involved in first-team affairs. But you have to wonder how two figures with two totally different footballing ideologies will work on a development plan for the football club.
All will hopefully be made clear by Celtic in the coming days. But the initial impression? It doesn’t look like the right fit.
