The duo of Jeremie Frimpong and Nir Bitton could make their return for Celtic against Aberdeen on Sunday, the Daily Record reports.
The pair have been out of action for the Hoops since January. However, the good news, as reported by the Daily Record, is that Frimpong is ‘expected’ to be in the squad for the trip to Pittodrie, and Bitton should also be available.
However, according to the report the game has come too soon for Hatem Abd Elhamed, who is also making his way back to full fitness.
Boost to have duo available
What a boost it will be for Neil Lennon’s side to have Frimpong and Bitton back in the squad.
The Hoops have coped admirably in the duo’s absence, but you always want your best players available.
The timing of the reported return is a real bonus too, as Celtic are less than a week away from a return to European competition against Copenhagen in the last 32 of the Europa League.
It will be interesting to see if either player gets game time against Aberdeen, or if they are only fit enough to make the bench.
You don’t want to gamble with a player’s fitness when they are just returning from injury, and Neil Lennon will be well aware of that.
Could get run out if Hoops are in control
Maybe if Celtic are in control of the game, Lennon will decide to give Frimpong or Bitton a run out for the last 20 minutes, for example.
Even if that doesn’t turn out to be the case, it will still be good news for Celtic if the pair can make the match day squad for the trip to Pittodrie.
That will show that they have overcame their injuries, and are available for selection as and when the manager sees fit.
