Report: Gavin Strachan won’t be leaving Celtic for Dundee

Celtic first-team coach Gavin Strachan isn’t being considered for the vacant manager’s role with Dundee, the Courier reports.

Despite the Parkhead figure appearing to be the favourite with bookmakers, it’s been claimed by the local outlet that Strachan isn’t one of the names in the frame.

Strachan has been at Parkhead since his appointment back in June 2020. He’s had to undergo a reputation rebuild under Ange Postecoglou this term after being a part of the failed 10-in-a-row regime.

It’s fair to say he’s done just that too after becoming one of Ange’s trusted sidekicks. The manager has consistently pointed to his backroom staff for their hard work in what’s turned out to be a title-winning season for the Hoops.

Both Strachan and John Kennedy were kept on by the manager at the start of campaign, with Ange deciding against bringing his own team to Glasgow.

And it looks as though that relationship will indeed continue for now with Strachan seemingly not in the discussion for the Dens Park gig.

So it appears as if Strachan won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Good news for Ange who will be looking to keep his staff in place ahead of next season’s UEFA Champions League push.

Interestingly, Strachan’s father Gordon is the director of football at Dens Park. It’s easy to see why the link was made to his son. It seems from the outside as if that’s the only real reason he was being touted for the role.

There could come a day when the Celtic first-team coach makes his move into management. But at the moment he’s on an exciting journey with Postecoglou and you can’t see him wanting to halt it anytime soon.

We were all quick to have a go at Strachan last season despite not knowing what his role was behind the scenes. Taking that into account, it’s imperative that we give him the due credit for the success of this term. Especially when Ange is directing praise his way too.

There will still be some who want the remnants of last season’s managerial team gone. But the truth is there’s no need for that to happen anymore. Not if the manager is happy with who he has.

So long as Celtic remain successful, it doesn’t really matter what Strachan’s main responsibilities at Lennoxtown are.
