The Daily Record has reported that Jeremie Frimpong’s Celtic exit is to be confirmed today.

Neil Lennon revealed yesterday that the Dutchman was in talks with another club. This comes after a bid for Frimpong had been accepted by the club as the player had wanted to leave [Sky Sports].

The Record yesterday claimed that the Hoops will receive well in excess of £10million for the right-back. And they now state that the move will be confirmed at some stage today.

It has been reported that Bayer Leverkusen is the club Frimpong is in talks with. His departure would leave Celtic woefully short in the right-back area, with only Hatem Elhamed available as a natural alternative.

It’s a massive blow for the Celtic support, with Frimpong one of Celtic’s most exciting assets given the potential he carries.

Jeremie Frimpong’s Celtic exit a sign of how our season is going

You wonder whether Celtic would’ve accepted any offer had the title race been closer. In fact, you wonder if Frimpong would’ve even wanted out of the club had there been something to fight for.

However, this is a player who knows the season is gone. He knows his development is stalling at Parkhead and wants out before he ends up regressing.

But I believe this deal shows just how lacking in fight the board now is. If the season was going well, nobody would be getting sold. Just like the resistance shown by Celtic in the summer when they kept hold of all of their top players.

It’s just frustrating from a fans’ perspective that it’s a tremendous young talent demanding to leave right out of the blue. Frimpong is a player we all hoped would’ve been here for several years yet. A player any new manager could’ve helped kick on.

Yet instead it just adds to the major rebuilding job needing done in the summer. Of course, it remains to be seen if Celtic swoop in for another right-back before the January window closes.

In any case, we’ll wish Jeremie all the best whenever this move is indeed confirmed. He’s certain to go far in the game, and from a personal perspective, he’s probably making a good career move.

In other news, Brian Rice has become the latest SPFL manager to defend Celtic.
