John Kennedy is eager to hold talks with likely new Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou to discuss his future, the Scottish Sun reports.

The report states that Kennedy is keen to find out whether he’s wanted under the new regime. This comes after he was previously a senior part of the Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers, and Neil Lennon eras at Celtic.

However, in a concerning twist, the Sun claims that Kennedy will likely be the one who decides his Celtic future. It’s been said that the former Parkhead interim boss is still being considered for the new Sporting Director role at the club.

It’s unclear as to what role Kennedy could hold at the club if he isn’t wanted by Postecoglou. However, in the past he’s denied that he’s ever been considered for a sporting director or director of football post [Daily Record].

Kennedy has been at Celtic since 1998 first as a player and then as part of the backroom team.

John Kennedy’s fate should be in the hands of the new Celtic manager

This won’t surprise many. Kennedy has been untouchable at Celtic Park for far too long and isn’t held accountable for much. Celtic fans don’t like invincible figures who seem to avoid any repercussions for their failures. Kennedy has had plenty of them over the last campaign in particular.

Yet no matter how many baffling decisions he makes or how many failed projects he takes on, he remains protected at the football club. It’s difficult to pinpoint why the club feels such a strong obligation to stand by the former Parkhead centre-back.

What isn’t clear is whether Kennedy will have the final say on whether he’s part of the senior coaching staff. The report claims that he’ll be the one who decides his Celtic future. In what capacity that is remains up for debate.

But it’s important that Postecoglou gets what he wants out of his backroom staff. If he doesn’t want Kennedy as his right-hand man then it’s counter-productive to make that the case. The same goes for if Kennedy manages to bag a spot as a first-team coach. In order for him to take any of these roles, it has to be given the go-ahead by Postecoglou.

Of course, it could be the case that Kennedy goes down to work with the colts team or is given a role in recruitment instead. It’s absolutely no surprise that he’ll likely be the one to decide his own future. He appears to be the only man at the club who appears to have immunity.

As things stand, however, no official decision has been made.

In other news, Postecoglou will reportedly have the final say on all transfers this summer.
